Fields and changing times – Talk by Paul Costain

10, October 2025 @ 19:30 - 22:00
chapel at night

Paul Costain takes us on a tour of Moorhouse Farm and the Isle of Man’s farming history.

There will be limited seating (45), and you will need to reserve your seat. To reserve your seat, you need to go to Eventbrite’s website, order a ticket, and bring a copy of it with you; your reservation will ensure your seat at the talk. Once you are on the website, search for “Paul Costain” or “Ballakilpheric”. Alternatively, if you don’t have access to a computer, contact Paul Creamer at paul.creamer@manx.net. We will be collecting £7.50 on the door. We would appreciate it if you could pay with cash, as we do not have a card machine. Refreshments will be served during or after the talk. All the money raised in the evening will go to the chapel and its restoration.

Paul will take us on a deeper look at Moorhouse Farm, its ties to the Ballagawne quarterland, and its roots in the old treen of Sansan to learn more about Manx history.

Farmer Paul Costain, Captain of the Parish of Rushen, talks about how farming has changed on the Isle of Man over time, from communal treen farming in the past to the modern methods we use today. He also talks about the island’s sacred and social past. The blend of Manx heritage and traditions is evident in both farming practices and folklore.
