Peter Kelly’s talk highlighted significant moments in the chapel’s development, including an amusing account of a 70-year journey to agree upon and install a toilet in the building.
Just days prior to the talk, Peter uncovered evidence suggesting that the site may have been home to a chapel as early as 1830 or 1833, which is significantly earlier than the previously accepted date of 1850.
This discovery will require further investigation, and we will keep you updated on our findings. Following the talk, Tom Thomson, Vice-Chairman of the Society, presented a cheque for £2,500 to the chapel. This donation will contribute towards the installation of a new floor in the schoolroom. Refreshments were served after the presentation in the schoolroom.
